The Glui language was recently classified as an
endangered
language. This language is only spoken by the Kalahari tribe in Botswana. This tribe uses several languages, including Swahili, Tswana and Glui. Previously, Swahili was only used to
communicate
while trading with other tribes. Tswana was used at home and Glui songs and
folktales
were only used during
cultural
festivals. However, the younger generation is increasingly using Swahili at home and while talking to other tribe
members
. Linguists predict that the increasing use of Swahili means that the other languages may become
extinct
. To ensure that Glui does not vanish, major
revival
efforts should be made.
